Travelling to the Optima Building

On foot or by bicycle

• The Optima building is situated in Glasgow city centre and can be easily accessed by foot. Cycle racks and shower and changing facilities are available for vistors on request.

Bus

• Major bus operators run services from all areas to Glasgow city centre. Buchanan Bus Station is a 15 minute walk from the Optima Building. 

Train

• Glasgow Central Station is a two minute walk from the Optima Building. 
• Glasgow Queen Street is a ten minute walk from the Optima Building.

Underground

• The nearest station to the Optima Building is St Enoch, which is a five minute walk away. There are 'park and ride' stations at Shields Road, Bridge Street and Kelvinbridge stations.

Car

• Whether you head into the city from the east or the west, you should leave the M8 at Junction 19 and follow the signs for City Centre. There are car parks on Oswald Street, Waterloo Street and Cadogan Street ¿ all within easy walking distance of the Optima Building. There is very limited on-street metered parking in the streets surrounding the Optima Building. Limited underground disabled parking is available for visitors who posses an appropriate permit.

Air

• Glasgow International Airport is a 20 minute drive from the city centre. Buses from and to Glasgow International Airport to Glasgow are frequent and stop is a one minute walk from the Optima Building.

Travelling to Lowden

Bicycle 

• Cycle racks, showers and changing facilites are available for visitors. On arrival please speak to a receptionist who will be happy to assist you.

Bus

• The journey time from Edinburgh to Lowden is approximately 30 minutes depending on traffic conditions.
  • Lothian Buses route numbers 49 or 33 drop at the Shawfair Park and Ride, which is adjacent to Lowden.
  • Travelling from Edinburgh the 49 picks up on Leith Street or North Bridge, the 33 picks up opposite Waverley Bridge on Princes Street or on North Bridge.
  • First Bus X95 travels between Edinburgh and the Borders. It picks up from Edinburgh Bus Station and drops off on the A7 Old Dalkeith Road, close to Lowden.

Train

• A shuttle pickup service operates between Jury’s Inn, Jeffrey Street, Edinburgh and Lowden.
  • Pick up times are 8:45am and 9:30am Monday to Friday.
  • Please call Lowden Reception on 0345 213 6885 to book a seat or cancel a reservation.
  • All bookings must be made by 3pm on the day before pick up.
  • Return transport is available from 3 pm and on the hour thereafter, up to 8 pm. It can be requested by using the taxi request form at reception.
  • Evening taxis can be provided but please give at least one hours notice of your need for a taxi and as much notice as possible if you need to cancel.

Air

• Edinburgh Airport is located to the west of Edinburgh and is a 20-25 minute drive via the Edinburgh City bypass to Lowden.

Car

• The office is situated on the main A7 road from Sherriffhall Roundabout to Edinburgh.There are designated parking spaces for disabled drivers who hold a blue badge permit. Please do not park in any marked pre-allocated car space, otherwise any free space within the car park is available to use. Please park responsibly in the area and follow road signs
