SVQ Processing Operations: Hydrocarbons (Control Room) SCQF level 7

Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) recognise competence in job-related skills and are based on National Occupational Standards.

SVQ units cover the traditional oil and gas processes and systems. There is also the opportunity to cover non-core processes and systems if units are completed from Group B.

This qualification is based on the National Occupational Standards set and published by the standards setting body for the sector, OPITO.

The qualification is available through employers and training providers.

Learners will gain an internationally-recognised qualification that guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.

Assessment is carried out in the workplace. This minimises any time learners need to be away from their work.

The SVQ can be offered in any of the following modes:

  • full-time
  • part-time (for example, day-release)

Who does this qualification suit

The SVQ Processing Operations: Hydrocarbons (Control Room) is designed for people working, or intending to work, in a number of areas in the oil and gas extraction industry, including production operations and multi-tasking operations.

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre. Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence.

Progression

Successful completion of the SVQ in Processing Operations: Hydrocarbons (Control Room) could allow progression to higher level qualifications and open up more employment opportunities and career prospects in the sector.

Approval

Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.

Centres without devolved authority must come forward for approval and should contact SQA’s Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA’s general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide (490 KB). The specific delivery requirements are set out in the assessment strategy.

Core Skills signposting

Core Skill mappings are carried out by the SSC responsible for the development of an SVQ. It is a requirement of SQA Accreditation that every SVQ submission includes information on where possible opportunities for candidates to develop Core Skills exist across the mandatory units.
