Operative and Supervisor Awards and Re-assessed Awards

There are 32 units (16 Initial Units and 16 Re-assessed units) covered by the scheme and anyone acting as a qualified operative or supervisor must hold the correct units for the activities they cover.

Operative Awards

  • O1 (001, 002, 003) - Excavation in the Road/Highway - G9T8 45
  • O2 (001, 002, 003, 004, 005, 006) - Excavation, Backfilling and reinstatement of Construction Layers with a cold-lay bituminous surface - G9T6 45
  • O3 (001, 002, 006, 007) - Reinstatement of construction layers in hot-lay and cold-lay bituminous materials - G9TF 45
  • O4 (001, 002, 008) - Reinstatement of concrete slabs - G9TE 45
  • O5 (001, 002, 009) - Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways - G9TG 45

  • S1 (001, 010, 011) - Monitor excavation in the Road/Highway - G9TG 46
  • S2 (001, 010, 011, 012, 013, 014) - Monitor excavation, backfilling and reinstatement of Construction Layers with bituminous materials - G9T7 46
  • S3 (001, 010, 014) - Monitor reinstatement of construction layers in bituminous materials - G9TC 46
  • S4 (001, 010, 015) - Monitor reinstatement of concrete slabs - G9TA 46
  • S5 (001, 010, 016) - Monitor reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways - G9TD 46

Units

When do my certificates expire?

Street Works certificates are valid for 5 years after which they require to be renewed as per the legislation covering your main country of work. For England and Scotland, it is via Re-assessment and for Wales and Northern Ireland it is re-registration.

What is Re-registration? (Wales and Northern Ireland)

For candidates working in Wales and Northern Ireland, there is no multiple-choice examination. 

Candidates submit an application form, along with the relevant fee and a passport style photograph, to the Street Works Qualifications Register and their certificate registration will be renewed for a further 5 years.

Renewal is only permitted up to a maximum of 3 months after the current certificate expiration date. If left any later than this, Operatives and Supervisors can either; undergo the initial assessment again or undergo Re-assessment as in England and Scotland.

If they choose to use Re-assessment to update their certificates, they will no longer be able to re-register as before and must continue to Reassess in the future.
