Conveyancing and Probate Apprenticeship End Point Assessment (EPA)

Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study, enabling learners to earn a salary as an employee and gain valuable skills and experience.

At the end of their training, all apprentices must undergo an independent assessment to verify that they have met the required level of occupational competence. A thorough, objective, and well-structured end-point assessment (EPA) is crucial in assuring employers that apprentices who complete an apprenticeship standard are fully capable of carrying out the role they have been trained for. This assessment ensures they can effectively demonstrate the duties, knowledge, skills, and behaviours (KSBs) outlined in the occupational standard.

SQA is an approved End-Point Assessment Organisation (EPAO) by the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to conduct independent end-point assessments for the following apprenticeship standards:

Conveyancing End Point Assessment Training Provider Approval Process

Level 4 EPA Specifications for Conveyancing and Probate Technician

Level 6 EPA Specifications for Licensed Conveyancer and Probate Practitioner

Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC)

The Council for Licensed Conveyancers (CLC) is the regulatory body for CLC lawyers and entities providing conveyancing, probate, and other legal services.

Upon successful completion of the end-point assessment (EPA), apprentices become eligible to apply to the CLC for professional registration on the CLC’s Register for Conveyancing Technicians or to obtain their first licence to practise as a Licensed Conveyancer.

SQA's role

SQA works in partnership with CLC to ensure the quality assurance and certification of qualifications that form part of the on-programme qualification for apprenticeships in Conveyancing/Probate Technician and Licensed Conveyancer/ Probate Practitioner.

Conveyancing end point assessment

End-point assessment must be conducted by an approved Apprentice Assessment Organisation (AAO) to ensure independence, validity, and compliance with apprenticeship standards. The final six months of the apprenticeship culminates in this assessment, which ensures that apprentices meet the occupational standards set by employers and demonstrate full competence in their role.

Apprentices undertake the EPA once their employer and training provider confirm they are ready and meet the required criteria. The Assessment Plans for Conveyancing Technician and Licensed Conveyancer outline the structure and delivery of the end-point assessment.
