FOI24/25 025 Marker Recruitment Process
FOI reference: 24/25 025
Date received: 10/06/2024
Date responded: 08/07/2024
Information requested
I require information regarding the experience of SQA for exam diet 2024. It has come to my attention that Art and Design markers are being recruited who have not taught a full course and have just finished their probation year. There has been no requirement of proof of teaching experience. Their lack of experience is very concerning in relation to previous requirements for joining an SQA marking team.
Response
The marker recruitment process requires markers to have a minimum of 2 years current teaching experience at the level they wish to mark (this can include a probationary year if the whole course has been delivered). If they are currently delivering on a part time basis, they must be able to demonstrate experience in delivering the full course. They must also meet the following criteria:
- Be able to demonstrate excellence in assessing to the national standard.
- Be able to work professionally and co-operatively with other appointees and SQA staff.
- Be able to demonstrate excellent organisational and administrative skills with an ability to meet deadlines.
- Have a home computer or laptop with internet connection and a private email address.
As part of the marker recruitment process, applicants are asked to confirm that they meet the criteria to mark. We are not aware of anyone on an Art and Design marking team who does not meet the criteria to mark.
