We carried out research in autumn 2023 to guide our decision-making about NextGen: HN:

The research has shown us how stakeholders – including learners, practitioners, Higher Education Institutions, SQA centres and employers – perceive the NextGen: HN design principles, and what changes we should make to ensure a successful rollout of the qualifications.

The research presented opportunities for us to adapt the support and level of information we provide to external stakeholders.
We have developed resources, including new e-learning, support materials and webinars, as well as more opportunities for engagement and collaboration.
We have provided more detail on specific aspects of NextGen: HN such as grading, meta-skills, quality assurance and the practicalities of delivering the qualifications. For example, we have produced:
- Meta-skills in practice guides
- A ‘Get Ready’ guide to support SQA centres
- Assessment support e-learning module
We continue to respond to the needs of external stakeholders, providing practical information and guidance, reinforced by targeted communications and engagement activity, to help them prepare for the wider rollout of NextGen: HN qualifications in 2024-25.
