Information requested
I would like data relating to the Exceptional Needs Consideration Service for 2023 exam diet. In particular, the number of candidates referred to the Service by Local Authority & independent sector, and by each individual school across Scotland

We do not have an Exceptional Needs Consideration service and we have assumed that what you are referring to is referring to the Exam Exceptional Circumstances Consideration (EECC) service.
The number of candidates referred to the EECC service by local authority sector is 3303.
The number of candidates referred to the EECC service by the Independent sector is 236.
It is not appropriate to provide data on individual schools due to the sensitive nature of the referrals and the risk that an individual candidate may be identified.
The numbers are relatively small, and we have a duty to ensure that in situations like this that individuals cannot be identified. We therefore consider the information to be exempt under section 38(1)(b) of the Act.
