FOI22/23 068 Difference Between Final Grades and Estimated Grades
FOI reference: 22/23 068

Information requested
I would be grateful if you could provide the following information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
This year students sitting exams in Scotland received their results from the SQA – however ahead of schools finishing for the summer break they were told to share the school/teacher estimated grade with pupils
I would like to understand the extent to which these grades [estimated by teachers] differed from the results students received from the SQA earlier this month
Could you please provide me with any information showing the difference between the final grades awarded by SQA in 2022 and teacher estimated grades provided to SQA.
Please note for the 2019 results the SQA carried out an analysis of how accurately teachers predicted their pupils final awards. That analysis found 48 per cent of grades estimated at National 5 in 2019 had resulted in those grades. The equivalent figure for Higher was 44 per cent; at Advanced Higher, it was 43 per cent.
I would like this information - but for 2022.
I would also like to understand if teacher estimates were higher or lower than the grades awarded by SQA earlier this month
