Can you please give me the definition of guided learning hours. Does this mean face to face teaching for those hours? Does the lecturer have the discretion to set tasks for students to complete On their own without supervision?
Response
Specifically in the context of SQA’s qualifications, guided learning hours is an historical term used by Ofqual that applies to some of SQA’s regulated qualifications. The term was changed to a combination of Total Qualification Time (TQT) and Guided Learning in 2017. Under these new definitions Guided Learning is defined as follows:
‘Guided Learning (GL):
- learning activity under the immediate guidance or supervision of a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training.
- includes the activity of being assessed if the assessment takes place under the immediate guidance or supervision of a lecturer, supervisor, tutor or other appropriate provider of education or training.
- Classroom-based learning supervised by a teacher
- Live webinar or telephone tutorial with a teach in real time
- E-learning supervised by a teacher in real time
- All forms of assessment which take place under the immediate guidance or supervision of an appropriate provider of training
- Exam time’
