SVQ Offshore Deck Operations - GR8T 22
The Scottish Vocational Qualification (SVQ) Offshore Deck Operations allows candidates to demonstrate competence in job-related skills in their particular area of work and expertise.
The SVQ covers areas such as carrying out slinging and lifting for the movement of loads and contributing to the health and safety of the working environment. Candidates will be able to complete optional units such as contributing to helicopter handling operations and carrying out general cleaning operations.
This SVQ is based on the NOS set and published by the sector skills council for the sector, OPITO.
This qualification is available through employers and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification
Learners will gain an internationally-recognised qualification that guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.
Assessment is carried out in the workplace. This minimises any time learners need to be away from their work.
The SVQ can be offered in any of the following modes:
- full-time
- part-time (for example, day-release)
Who does this qualification suit
The SVQ in Offshore Deck Operations is designed for people working in the oil and gas industry as deck crew or heli-deck crew on offshore platforms and installations and who can benefit from well-structured opportunities to improve their skills and career prospects.
Access
Entry is at the discretion of the centre. Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence.
Progression
Successful completion of the SVQ in Offshore Deck Operations could allow progression to higher level qualifications and open up more employment opportunities and career prospects in the sector.
Approval
Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority require to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide (490 KB).
