SVQ Process Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical) SCQF level 7
The Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQ) in Process Engineering Maintenance at SCQF level 7 provide skills and knowledge in the maintenance and operation of process engineering plant and equipment for the oil and gas extraction, chemicals manufacturing and petroleum industries. The SVQs identify competences that are specific to each of the maintenance disciplines: Electrical, Instrument and Control, and Mechanical.
SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards (NOS). This SVQ is based on the NOS set and published by the sector skills council for the sector, Cogent.
This qualification is available through employers and training providers.

Why deliver this qualification
Learners will gain an internationally-recognised qualification that guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient.
Assessment is carried out in the workplace. This minimises any time learners need to be away from their work.
The SVQ can be offered in any of the following modes:
- full-time
- part-time (for example, day-release)
Who does this qualification suit
The SVQs in Process Engineering Maintenance are intended for people in the oil and gas extraction, chemicals manufacturing and petroleum industries who may be working as maintenance technicians or production technicians.
Access
Entry is at the discretion of the centre. As these are mainly work-based qualifications, candidates should be in positions that would enable them to provide the required evidence.
Progression
Successful completion of the SVQ in Process Engineering Maintenance (Mechanical) could open up more employment opportunities and career prospects in the sector.
Approval
Centres with devolved authority for approval should use their own internal approval process.
Centres without devolved authority will need to come forward for approval and should contact SQA¿s Business Development Team for guidance.
Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA¿s general requirements for technical/¿occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide.
