The NPA in Construction Skills at SCQF level 5 introduces learners to craft techniques in the construction industry, and the opportunity to combine these with practical skills in the built environment.
It develops knowledge and understanding of a range of construction disciplines and focuses on skills and the application of learning that is essential for careers in the sector.
This NPA provides a wide choice in sector areas such as carpentry and joinery, painting and decorating, brickwork, plasterwork, roof tiling and stonemasonry.
This qualification is available through schools, colleges and training providers.

How to assess
Assessment will be a combination of project-based, practical and knowledge assessments under closed- and open-book assessment conditions. See the assessment and evidence requirements for each unit.

Resources
It would be beneficial for staff delivering the qualification to have suitable industry experience and relevant teaching qualifications. A familiarity with evidence-based assessment is recommended for assessing practical units. Observation checklists could be used alongside supportive digital evidence such as audio, photographic and video records.
For the practical based elements of the qualification, centres/schools are required to provide a specialist practical workshop and/or project areas that comply with health and safety requirements, such as specialist Personal Protective Equipment and hand tools, in order to facilitate practical assessments.
In addition, learners will require access to a learning environment and appropriate ICT facilities to complete the knowledge and understanding components of the award.
It is recommended that delivery centres develop collaborative partnerships with further education centres, colleges, employers and local suppliers, wherever possible, to assist/enhance the delivery of the award
