Level 2 Diploma in Maritime Studies

The Level 2 Diploma in Maritime Studies has six Qualifications within it:
- Diploma in Maritime Studies Able Seafarer (Engine Room)
- Diploma in Maritime Studies Rivers, Inland Waterways and Limited Distances to Sea
- Diploma in Maritime Sea Fishing
- Diploma in Maritime Studies Workboats
- Diploma in Maritime Studies Marine Vessel Maintenance (Electro-Technical)
- Diploma in Maritime Marine Vessel Maintenance (Engineering)
Depending on which qualification is completed the following areas are covered:
- Maritime Employment, Environmental and Health and Safety Practice;
- Maritime Sector Overview;
- Survival in the Water During Maritime Emergencies;
- Maritime Security;
- Emergency First Aid in Response to Maritime Accidents or Medical Emergencies;
- Communicate Using Equipment and Visual Means;
- Securing a vessel for passage;
- Assisting with a vessel's navigational watch;
- Vessel ropework, anchoring and mooring operations;
- Operation of workboats;
- Monitor electrical and electronic equipment onboard the ship, including radio communications and electronic navigation aids;
- Ensure specific electrical/electronic equipment is maintained to the correct standards;
- Carry out checks and ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical and electronic equipment, including high voltage (>1000V) equipment;
- problem solve e.g. diagnose electrical and electronic faults and take action to prevent the problem from happening again;
- operate and maintain machinery and support systems on a ship, including planning and preparation of engineering maintenance jobs;
- work safely in an engineering environment and comply with relevant regulations, guidelines and procedures;
- problem solve over a wide range of machinery and equipment;
- communicate clearly with staff at all levels;
- work effectively within a team;
