Clear Multiple Windblown Trees Award SCQF level 6

The Award in Clear Multiple Windblown Trees at SCQF level 6 will develop knowledge and skills in areas such as how to safely operate and maintain a chainsaw; how to fell small trees; and how to plan, carry out and safely complete clearing of multiple trees.

Achievement of this Award is nationally recognised.

This qualification covers areas such as planning for, preparing for and felling small trees; inspection, routine and specific maintenance of chainsaws; and planning, preparing for and safely carrying out timber clearing. The focus of the Group Award is on safely clearing multiple trees from planning to completion.

This qualification is available through training providers and colleges.

The Award can be used to offer a progression pathway to other qualifications (see Progression).

Access

Entry is at the discretion of the centre.

No specific knowledge is required to undertake this Award.

Progression

The Award may provide progression to a range of related Chainsaw and Tree Clearing qualifications including:

  • Award in Chainsaw Felling Large Trees at SCQF Level 6
  • SVQ in General Woodland and Forestry Treework at SCQF Level 6

Approval

Centres interested in offering this qualification are required to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.

Assessors and verifiers must be able to meet SQA's general requirements for technical/occupational competence as outlined in the Systems and Qualification Approval Guide. The specific delivery requirements are set out in the Group Award Specification (Arrangements Document).

How to assess

Each individual unit specification gives detailed information on the evidence requirements and approaches to assessment for each unit.

Awards are not graded.

Each unit is assessed separately. Each unit requires that the candidate produces practical evidence. Evidence will be based on the candidate's practical experience.

Assessment can take place at appropriate points as candidates progress through the tasks within the units. Evidence of assessment can be presented in a format which best suits the individual candidates and the activities being undertaken.

Evidence can include written records, e-mails, assessor records, diaries, videos, recordings of interviews or photographs.
