Learners can specialise in coordinating project designs or obtaining tenders and appointing contractors.
This qualification may be available through employers, training providers and colleges. It is offered in England and Wales.
This is an updated qualification that has been developed in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) to ensure it meets the needs of the industry.

Rationale and purpose of this qualification
This qualification is aimed at those who are working in the construction industry, and looking for recognition of their prior learning and experience in the construction industry.
Its primary purpose is to develop and confirm the learner’s occupational competence as a construction contracting operations manager. As a work-related, competence-based qualification, it provides confirmation to employers, industry managers and card schemes that the learner has the skills and knowledge needed to meet the nationally-recognised standard to carry out a role at a managerial level within the construction industry.
Learners who achieve this qualification can use it to gain employment, to progress in the industry, or to work towards another qualification (see Progression).

Recognition
This qualification is supported by the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).
CSCS provides a registration card scheme acknowledged by industry for those involved in construction. The scheme recognises skills, knowledge and understanding, competence and qualifications.
What does this qualification cover?
As this is a competence-based qualification, learners will be acquiring the knowledge and skills required through either on-the-job experience or in a learning environment.
To achieve the whole qualification, learners need a minimum of 115 credits. They must complete 5 mandatory units plus 4 optional units from the qualification structure (58 KB)

This qualification is suitable for:

Entry
Entry to the qualification is at the discretion of the centre.
This qualification is mainly taken by individuals employed as managers working in a wide range of site- or office-based roles in the construction industry, for example:
- quantity surveyors
- buyers
- estimators
- planners
- general contractors
This qualification is mainly taken by individuals employed or seeking employment in construction contracting operations management.
Progression
Learners may progress from the Level 6 NVQ in Construction Contracting Operations Management to a range of jobs in the construction industry at a managerial level.
Learners may also progress into further education.
