Assessment Validator (AV)
An Assessment Validator (AV) is responsible for carrying out a final independent check to ensure the external assessment is of the correct standard and fit for purpose. This work must be undertaken independently within the conditions, timescales and arrangements set by SQA, maintaining the security of the assessment materials at all times.
These activities will be under the direction of staff from SQA's Qualifications Development directorate. There will be a requirement to undertake duties in your own time.
Outline of duties
- Verify that the external assessment is of the correct standard and is appropriately accessible to candidates at the correct level.
- Complete the external assessment independently, carrying out each task (where appropriate) and using professional judgement, confirm that the external assessment can be completed within the allocated time.
- Complete and submit feedback using the checklist provided and provide suggestions for amendments to the external assessment as necessary, within specified SQA timescales.
- Maintain the security of the external assessment materials at all times.
Selection criteria
Successful candidates must:
- currently be delivering a Course in the subject area, with a minimum of 2 years experience at one or more levels
- have an in-depth understanding of national standards across the course/level in the subject area
- be able to demonstrate excellent organisational skills, administrative skills and attention to detail
- be able to communicate professionally and effectively with SQA staff
- have a private e-mail address.
Key Performance Measures for Assessment Validator
Each year, on completion of the duties outlined in the Assessment Validator contract specification, the following Key Performance Measures (KPMs) will be used to measure performance. Assessment Validators will be informed of the performance outcome when KPMs have not been achieved.
- Independently, quality assure the external assessment.
- Complete and submit an AV checklist on completion of the external assessment, providing constructive feedback.
- Provide suggestions for amendments to the external assessment, either via the checklist or by annotating the materials where requied.
- Meet timelines and follow all SQA policy and instruction.
- Engage in a professional manner with SQA staff.
