Apprenticeships information for employers
There are different ways employers can recruit new apprentices and strengthen their workforce:
- Foundation Apprenticeships - Working with local schools to develop the skills and knowledge of S4 to S6 pupils.
- Modern Apprenticeships - Providing on-to-job training for current or new employees with an industry approved SVQ.

Why recruit an apprentice?
Skills Development Scotland surveyed over 2,500 employers to hear their views on Modern Apprenticeships and the benefits they bring to their businesses. The survey has shown that employers are continuing to invest in Modern Apprenticeships.
Apprenticeship levy
All UK employers with annual salary bills of more than £3 million will pay an apprenticeship levy.
The Scottish Government's response to the UK Government apprenticeship levy, outlines that they will use the levy to further support skills, training and employment in Scotland.
This support includes commitments to expanding the Modern Apprenticeship programme and continuing with the implementation of Developing the Young Workforce - Youth Employment Strategy.
