SVQ Built Environment Design SCQF level 6
The SVQ in Built Environment Design at SCQF level 6 covers areas such as producing and recommending detailed design solutions and maintaining professional relationships and practice. There are also options to study more specific topics such as investigating factors affecting project development, surveys, reporting, drawing, schedules, tenders and monitoring projects — all in the context of built environment design.
SVQs are based on National Occupational Standards. SQA works in partnership with other organisations to ensure that National Occupational Standards (NOS) are relevant to the current and future needs of Scottish industries.

Why deliver this qualification
This is a re-accredited qualification. Learners will gain an internationally recognised qualification which guarantees that they have the skills, knowledge and abilities required to carry out their role successfully. Employers will also benefit from their employees being proficient in required skills and knowledge.
Assessment is carried out in the workplace, minimising any time learners would need to be away from their work.
The SVQ can be offered full-time or part-time (eg day-release), or by open and distance learning.
Who does this qualification suit
This SVQ is suitable for people who are currently in employment and who wish to obtain a formal qualification.
Access
Entry is at the discretion of the centre.
Candidates should be in a job or placement where they are carrying out relevant tasks and responsibilities which allow them to gather the required evidence.
No prior qualifications are required to undertake these qualifications, although experience in or knowledge of the subject would be an advantage.
Progression
Candidates who complete the SVQ in Built Environment Design at SCQF level 6 can progress to an SVQ in Built Environment Design at level SCQF 9.
The SVQs at SCQF levels 6 and 9 could provide progression to:
- degree-level study at a higher education institution
- employment in the construction sector, perhaps as a building or architectural technician
Approval
Centres will have to come forward for approval and should contact SQA's Business Development Team for guidance.
