HNC/HND Fashion: Design and Production with Retail

The HNC/HND Fashion: Design and Production with Retail provides a knowledge and skills base for people who are interested in working in the industry. It covers textile technology, pattern construction, fashion design, fashion merchandising, customising patterns, designing and producing fashion garments, store design and layout, and clothing production.

Entry 

As with all SQA qualifications, entry is at the discretion of the centre.

HNC Fashion: Design and Production with Retail

Examples of formal entry qualifications include:

  • A National Certificate or equivalent qualification at SCQF level 5 or 6.
  • Evidence of experience or qualifications in Art and Design or a related area.
  • Two Highers at level C or above.
  • If English is not your first language, English for Speakers of Other Languages at an appropriate level.

If you have Work experience in the Fashion, Retail or other related industry, you may be accepted for entry. If you have equivalent qualifications from this country or other countries, you may be accepted for entry if the competences can be identified and are appropriate.

HND Fashion: Design and Production with Retail

Progression and employment

HNC Fashion: Design and Production with Retail 

Typically, people who complete the HNC and go straight into employment get jobs such as design room assistant, freelance designer, production assistant, garment technologist, stylist, fashion allocator, merchandiser, buyer, or retail manager.

After achieving the HNC, you could go on to the HND Fashion: Design and Production with Retail. From there, you could go directly into Year 2 or 3 of degree programmes. You should check with your centre for the requirements of the degree course you are interested in.

HND Fashion: Design and Production with Retail
