SQA supports the College Development Network College Awards in its 25th year
The College Development Network (CDN) College Awards took place on Thursday 14 November, recognising the talent, skills and achievements of colleges, their staff and their learners.
This year is particularly worth celebrating as it marked the 25th anniversary of the awards, a milestone that highlights the commitment to recognising the remarkable achievements of the college sector. Over the past 25 years, these awards have showcased the accomplishments of learners and educators, and the impact they have on wider communities and the economy.
SQA qualifications form a large part of the provision for education and training in Scotland's colleges, and we work in partnership with colleges to develop and enhance new and existing qualifications. We are proud to support the college sector in meeting the needs of learners across Scotland.
SQA sponsored the Judges’ Award category, an award which recognises the best overall submission from across all categories, including the Student of the Year Award, Inclusive College Award, and Innovation Award. This year’s winner was Dundee and Angus College, who earlier in the evening won the Inclusive College Award. By adapting the curriculum, teaching practices and support systems, the college created a welcome environment for over 250 refugees and asylum seekers. The college provided language support, adapted learning techniques, and supported social and cultural integration. As a result, refugee and asylum seeker students achieved significantly above the national average.
John McMorris, Director of Corporate Strategy and Business Development at SQA, presented the Judges’ Award to Dundee and Angus College. He said, 'A huge congratulations to all of the staff at Dundee and Angus College. Their effort to create a space where all students can thrive is clear, and deserves to be recognised. I’d also like to express my support and gratitude for all the nominees and winners. SQA has a strong legacy working with the College Development Network, and we’ve been supporting these awards for many years. I am always impressed by the incredible achievements and work done by and within colleges across the country.'
