Based in Derby, MDH Plant Training Ltd is a small family-run business that specialises in delivering a wide range of construction learning and training. The training organisation is an accredited CPCS test centre and NPORS training provider, with excellent facilities in a central location. In addition to offering an extensive programme of construction plant training, MDH is also CITB Site Safety Plus approved, allowing it to offer a range of training options to site supervisors and managers.

It became apparent to MDH that there was an appetite from clients for the business to offer VQ qualifications in Plant Operations as an addition to its existing portfolio. The company decided to approach SQA to find out more about becoming an approved centre. Director Mandy Heyes explains: ‘Many colleagues we have worked with over the years were already registered with SQA. Their feedback was always positive, which encouraged us to get in touch.’

The company was notably impressed with the SQA approval process and the step-by-step guidance provided along the way. ‘The support and advice from our Regional Manager, Sarah Stevenson, went above and beyond my expectations,’ adds Director Mark Heyes. MDH Plant Training is now approved to deliver the Level 2 NVQ Certificate and Diploma in Plant Operations, as well as Level 4 and 5 Diplomas in Controlling Lifting Operations.

In addition to the guidance provided by its SQA Regional Manager, MDH is delighted with the wider support network at SQA. ‘Lisa, who carried out our centre approval visit, was patient and extremely helpful, and our external verifier John is realistic and very approachable — he has provided me with answers to endless questions!’ explains Mandy. Further benefits include competitive registration costs and certificates being issued in a timely manner. ‘The centre support team have been marvellous and I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending SQA.’

MDH recently became an accredited CITB Approved Training Organisation (ATO) providing training courses and qualifications to a defined and industry-agreed training standard. As an ATO, MDH Plant Training is part of CITB’s automated grant payment system, making it easier for its CITB grant levy paying clients to book courses and be reimbursed for them. In addition, the company’s most recent verification visit identified high confidence across all areas. MDH Plant Training is looking forward to continued success delivering SQA qualifications.
